CONDITIONS BECOME MORE FERTILE FOR ARMED REVOLUTION AND MILITARY COUP

GMA MAKES THE REAL COUP FOR HERSELF BUT CONDITIONS BECOME MORE FERTILE FOR ARMED REVOLUTION AND MILITARY COUP

All that the anti-Arroyo military officers in Para sa Bayan, Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan and Makabayang Kawal Pilipino have been wishing for is to follow the example of their military predecessors in Edsa 1 and Edsa 2: withdraw support from the Arroyo regime, cooperate with the broad united front and mass movement and pave the way for a new civilian government.

The pro-Arroyo chain of military command did not have any coup attempt to foil on February 24. This is borne out by the fact that no charge of coup d’etat or rebellion is being brought before any court against the commanding officers of the First Scout Ranger Regiment, the First Marine Brigade and the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police.

It is Gloria M. Arroyo who made the real coup by usurping martial law powers under the guise of a proclamation of a state of national emergency and now uses the military and police to crack down on the legal opposition parties, progressive mass organizations, mass media and other civilian entities.

Despite the formal lifting of Proclamation 1017, she threatens to reissue it under a new number and continues to use the military and police to attack and destroy the vulnerable because unarmed civilian opposition forces (especially the progressives) and stop them from exercising their civil and political rights.

Let us assume that she succeeds in pacifying her civilian and unarmed political opponents or in preventing them from undertaking powerful mass actions and she thus prolongs her rule for one or two more years. And so she has her way, serving her foreign masters, stealing, cheating, lying and unleashing the mad dogs of state terrorism.

In the absence of a civilian political opposition strong enough to replace the Arroyo regime with a new civilian government, the conditions become more than ever fertile for the growth of the people’s armed revolutionary movement and likewise for a military coup by military and police officers who calculate that they need to remove the stinking Arroyo regime to save the ruling system from the armed revolution. ###
