Prayer for a Just and Lasting Peace

God of the struggling people
Hallowed be your name
Let the promise of abundant life be realized
And our longing for justice and peace be fulfilled.

Forgive our comfortable life
If we become unresponsive to the cries of the people
Forgive our daily prayers
If we close our eyes and hearts to the needs of the many
Forgive our act of charity
If it has thwarted us to work for justice
Forgive our silence and solitude
If we departed from serving the oppressed wholeheartedly.

Look upon our nation
Corruption and violence govern us
The rich few exploit the many poor
The workers are deprived of just wages
Peasants and indigenous peoples are driven away from the land
Heavy taxes and unabated price increases burden the vast majority
Health, education and social services are not accessible
Those who shout for justice and human rights are silenced
Those who work for genuine peace are killed.

We lament that our government did not heed our call, and
Hardheadedly supported the U.S. illegal,
immoral and unjust war in Iraq
Now the Overseas Filipino Workers face
even more vulnerability and uncertainty.
Grant your people the courage and will to
push forward the agenda of peace.

Continue to challenge our faith and love; nurture the hope within us
Strengthen our passion to serve and journey with the people
Accompany us on our way
Give us the strength of an eagle, the humility of a dove,
the wisdom of a serpent
As we join the people in the quest for a
lasting Peace based on Justice.
AMEN.

A CHANGE OF HAT: Famous Atheist Now Believes in God

Famous Atheist Now Believes in God

One of World's Leading Atheists Now Believes in God, More or Less, Based on Scientific Evidence

NEW YORK Dec 9, 2004 — A British philosophy professor who has been a leading champion of atheism for more than a half-century has changed his mind. He now believes in God more or less based on scientific evidence, and says so on a video released Thursday.

At age 81, after decades of insisting belief is a mistake, Antony Flew has concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature, Flew said in a telephone interview from England...

Maybe, as one gets older he is becoming more prone to wearing an "old man's hat" for good and becomes tired in a battle of "proving and disproving" on something that I think not so relevant in man's quest to know the UNIVERSE. To know the UNIVERSE, there is ultimately PHYSICS... biological organisms no matter how complex maybe in their motion and structure are ultimately composed of fundamental physical entities those I think governed fundamentally by the laws of QUANTUM MECHANICS that requires no intelligent GOD.

Finally, if God really did provide an explanation for the parameters we observe, we should be able to use this explanation ("God arranges the universe in the simplest possible form consistent with our existence") as a good old-fashioned scientific theory, and start making predictions. What would God have chosen as the mass of the Higgs boson, for example? Would God make use of low-energy supersymmetry breaking? Why are there three generations of fermions? Why is the proton lifetime so long, and why are flavor-changing neutral currents so small? If you're going to claim explanatory power, you'd better be able to explain things.

In reality, the temptation to believe in God arises from a combination of wishful thinking and a loss of nerve -- the fear that there are some features of reality that will never admit of a conventional scientific explanation, despite the historical reality that such fears have always proven groundless. Just as Darwin killed off the biological argument from design, physicists will eventually kill off the cosmological one. The universe we actually observe is elegant, preposterous, extravagant, and generally quite thrilling; no need to sully it with superfluous pieces of pseudo-explanatory baggage.

Just An Addition To "ON CHRISTIANITY"

ON CHRISTIANITY

On Historical context, Christianity was founded in times of colonial rule of Rome on the Jewish land.Class analysis would show that the Jewish people were divided into local ruling classes and the Jewish masses. The traditional teachers of the Jewish religion at that time mostly served the interests of Rome and the local ruling elite so the Jewish people had hoped for a messiah, actually what was expected was a fighting leader not a preacher but it turned out- a preaching one who challenged the traditional ideas and interpretation of the old Jewish religion. It was some kind of an intellectual movement at that time but instead of preaching revolt and uprising, the movement of Jesus Christ ultimately ended up into a new religion of the Jewish masses who were marginalized by the old traditional Jewish church of the local ruling Jewish elite...

on christianity

there's nothing wrong with the basic teachings of christianity. TRUE christians are pro people. the end of christian teachings is to serve and even die liberating the masses just like what Jesus did in His time. coz we can never show our faith to the fullest if we will not do so.

"You can never serve My name if you will not serve My people."

Ana's Story

ANG SUGILANON NI ANA

Gwapa. Puti-on. Igo-igo ang katas-on. Slim.

Membro si Beth sa Student Christian Movement of the Philippines o SCMP.

Day of Youth and Student Protest.

Ana!

DAKO KAAYUNG HAGIT SA ATONG MGA KABATAN-UNAN ILABINA KADTONG NAA PAY HIGAYON SA PAG-ESKWELA NGA IPADAYUN ANG ATONG PAGTUUN DILI LAMANG DIHA SULOD SA ATONG TULUNGHAAN,” dungag nga batbat sa estudyanteng mamumulong. “ANG ATONG KATILINGBAN USA KA DAKONG TULUNGHAAN UG ANG KATAWHAN NGA NAG-ILAID SA KALISOD UG PAGPAHIMULOS MAO ANG ATONG GIYA DIHA SA ATONG PAGTUUN.

Mao ba?

(END)

Better Late Than Never Greetings!!!

So much envy I have for this youths whose sharp awareness well compensated for with their unfading youthful dynamism TO SERVE THE PEOPLE.

I may not have the courage but my admiration goes to them... BELATED MILITANT ANNIVERSARY TO YOU VANGUARD OF THE FILIPINO YOUTH

Kabataang Makabayan, as the vanguard organization of the Filipino youth, should assist in the
achievement of an invincible unity of all national classes and forces to push further the struggle
for national and social liberation in all fields-economic, political, cultural, military-against the
leading enemy, U.S. imperialism, and against the persistent and pervasive main enemy, landlordism.
Both have frustrated the national democratic aspirations of the Philippine revolution of 1896 and
have made the suffering and exploitation of our people more complex and more severe.(Quoted
from the KM founding speech, SND 3rd ed.)

The Growth of Inflation

Twenty-five years after Alan Guth turned cosmology on its head, what's the latest story of the universe's first moments?

by Davide Castelvecchi

It was a true Eureka moment if there ever was one. On the night of December 6, 1979, an obscure Stanford Linear Accelerator Center postdoc was up late, sweating over an even more obscure problem about particles called magnetic monopoles. Looking at his calculations the next day, the usually low-key Alan Guth annotated the words "SPECTACULAR REALIZATION" at the top of the page. Guth had discovered cosmic inflation, an idea which some have later called the most important in cosmology since the big bang.

"I never thought that anybody would ever actually measure these things. I thought we were just calculating for the fun of it." - Alan Guth

Klein-Gordon Field and Gravity

What do condoms in this modern times have in common with the fundamental particles called QUARKS of QUANTUM CHROMODYNAMICS?Color and flavor. In one of the posts(title: Sex is Fun...) of PREPOSTEROUS it was commented: Condoms as quarks?? Imagine superpartners, scondoms. There'd be a stop condom! That should work...
(anomymous | Thu, December 02, 2004 @ 10:45 am | #).Hmmm...condoms too could either be up or down like quarks?

Anyway, while finding ways to solve a set of nonlinear differential equations, I'm starting to ask myself if it is worth (valid consideration) finding spherically symmetric solutions of Einsteins Field Equations (General Relativity) with a static Klein-Gordon Field acting as the source in curved spherically symmetric space? This is the new research problem we are currently working on and hope to complete before the deadline of submission to a journal of a prestigious physics institute here in the country, Philippines. We just hope that what we are working on is valid that the work may have a chance to be accepted for publication.

By the way, the we that I'm refering here is us you'll see in this picture.

ALL OUT WAR AGAINTS ILLEGAL LOGGERS

Note: Published on page A1 of the Dec. 6, 2004 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

SENSING "all talk but no action" from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, environmentalists in Aurora and Quezon challenged her to immediately cancel the permits of at least nine big logging companies in the two provinces where hundreds of people died from massive floods and landslides blamed on the rampant cutting of trees.

The Multi-Sectoral Action Group (MSAG) identified the companies as Pacific Timber Export Corp., Verdant Agro-Forest Development Corp., Inter-Pacific Forest Resources Corp., Industries Development Corp., RCC Timber Co., San Roque Sawmill Corp., Benson Realty Development Corp., Toplite Lumber Corp. and Green Circle Properties and Resources Inc.

The firms either have timber license agreements, integrated forest management agreements (IFMAs) or special private land timber licenses with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the MSAG said in a statement e-mailed to the Inquirer from Baler town, Aurora.

The operations of Green Circle, whose license covers 30,000 hectares, extend up to General Nakar town in Quezon, southeast of Aurora, MSAG secretary Joey Estriber said.

The MSAG issued the challenge after Ms Arroyo talked tough against logging. She ordered on Saturday the suspension of all logging activity in the country amid the disaster that struck the Sierra Madre mountain range, where Aurora and parts of Quezon lie.

"The logging activities of these legitimate companies are the main reason the mountains are bald," Estriber said in Filipino.

"Government was deaf to our appeals for a large-scale corporate log ban since 1991," he said...

A staunch supporter of Ms Arroyo himself appeared unimpressed by her declaration of an all-out war against illegal loggers...

Meanwhile, GMA blamed it to the communists:

The President earlier blamed the NPA for the flooding and landslides, saying that military reports showed that the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines had asked for protection money from loggers.

As I have known, the Communist Party of The Philippines had implemented long way before its own version of environmental measures in areas under its belligerent control that restricted and regulated the entry of logging companies, implementing its own campaign againts deforestration. As far I have known also, in the deep forests here in Mindanao, sections of government military special forces were part of securing and escorting force of big logging concessionaires licensed by the government for logging operations. As assessed by the CPP that deforestration reached to an indescriminate magnitude and inflected damage to Filipino "Lumad"s' ancestral lands, it then implemented its program of selective and regulated logging. But GMA administration is hell-bent blaming the "left", which I find so laughable.
