Solidarity message

Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2006 21:31:01 +0100

Dear Ka Bel, dear friends,

Solidarity greetings from Action Solidarit Tiers Monde (ASTM) in Luxembourg. We want to let you know that we are thinking of you, your family and all those close to you in this time of crisis, in deep concern for your personal safety and for the future of democracy in the Philippines.

You may remember briefly meeting us in Luxembourg when Joma Sison came for a hearing of the European Court of Justice not so long ago. Our organisation has been a partner of KMP for several years now and we were of course outraged to hear about the developments in your country in the past few days. We are attaching a copy of the press communiqu ASTM sent out to the national press in Luxembourg today as a small contribution to the struggle to force the Arroyo administration to return to legality and respect for human rights. We also intend to contact the President of our Parliament to inform him of what is happening to fellow legislators in the Philippines.

We wish you all the courage you need to get through these dark days; knowing the strength of the Filipino people and their capacity to fight for justice and their rights we are convinced that in the end the will of the people will prevail and the oppression and injustice of the present system will come to an end.

In solidarity

Julie Smit
