BAYAN Muna Representative Satur Ocampo eluded arrest at an opposition-sponsored forum at a hotel in Quezon City on Saturday, his lawyer said.

Neri Colmenares of Bayan Muna said Ocampo was "out of danger" although his car and two drivers, identified only as Roel and Art, were taken into custody by yet unidentified uniformed men.

Ocampo was emerging from the opposition meeting at about 10:30 a.m. when a commotion was heard outside the Sulo Hotel, according to Colmenares.

He said Ocampo and those with him suddenly ran when the uniformed men started chasing them.

Earlier on Saturday, Ocampo himself disclosed that Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran was arrested in Bulacan province.

Beltran's staff told reporters through a text message that the legislator was to be brought to police headquarters in Camp Crame.

The arrests came, hours after a pro-opposition paper, the Manila Daily Tribune, was shut down, and a day after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared a state of national emergency following a foiled military attempt to oust her.
